Who We Are
InsideOUT is a national organisation that works with youth, whānau, schools and communities to make Aotearoa a safer place for all rainbow young people to live and be in.
Our mission is to work with youth, whānau, schools, community groups, youth services, government agencies and other relevant organisations to provide safer schools and communities for rainbow (LGBTQIA+) young people.
How We Create Change
We work to foster the building and provision of resources, education, information, hui and relevant tools which work to improve the health, wellbeing and safety of rainbow young people. We do this by:
- Providing professional development training for schools, organisations, government agencies, workplaces and businesses wanting to upskill on rainbow inclusion.
- Creating and providing resources, education, information and other relevant tools which engage youth to effectively set up and maintain queer straight alliances/rainbow diversity groups in their schools and take other actions to make their schools safer.
- Providing opportunities for young people to connect, gain skills and build capacity through running regular regional and national hui.
Supporting young people and schools all over NZ in starting, strengthening, and sustaining QSAs and build the capacity of QSAs to:
- create a space where students can socialise in a safe environment
- provide support for students who might be facing issues such as bullying
- spread awareness about homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, gender identity and sexual orientation issues within the school.
