Kairos Food Rescue is a non-profit community trust set up in 2018 to rescue unwanted food from local suppliers, assess its quality and redistribute it to individuals, families and food partners in the wider Christchurch region.
Kairos Food Rescue has a mission to rescue food, feed people and build community. We seek to transform lives through community and purpose, whilst saving good quality food from otherwise going to waste.
Throughout the wider Christchurch region, we rescue approximately 3.5 tonnes of food each working weekday. We sort and redistribute the food to over 60 food partner community groups around Canterbury.
We operate our Community Hub each Friday, seeing roughly 150 members of the community who are facing hardship receive food relief and connection.
We have over 250 regular volunteers who support our cause, and we use our volunteer roles as an opportunity to support and upskill people facing hardship to experience transformation and work readiness.
